Description

English royalist troops at the Battle of Sedgemoor, 1685. Illustrations of soldiers during this period are kinda hard to find so it was a challenge tracking down good references for this.

King James II's victory over James, Duke of Monmouth (dare I suggest his "nephew").  It is a rarely painted subject.  Oddly more people are aware of the horrible judicial aftermath (headed by King James' hatchet man Judge Jeffreys) called "the Bloody Assizes", which resulted in many hangings of questionable justice.  If you've seen the old Errol Flynn movie "Captain Blood", or read Arthur Conan Doyle's historical novel "Micah Clarke", the battle and it's after effects are involved in both plots.
